Our elk hunting/deer hunting combination package is conducted on private land with a Montana hunting guide in the Ruby Mountains of Southwest Montana. The area contains a substantial resident elk population with an excellent bull to cow ratio offering you the prospective hunter an excellent Montana elk hunting experience. These guided elk hunts also provide an opportunity for excellent deer hunting in Montana.
The terrain varies from open foothills to timbered mountainsides and canyons at elevations from 6000 to 8000 feet above sea level. There are over 16,000 acres within the guided hunting area controlled by Lost Fork Ranch adjacent to vast areas of BLM land providing excellent summer and winter range for both elk and mule deer.
The Mule Deer population, like all of Southwest Montana, is currently on the rebound from the low population years of the late 1990's. However, elk numbers are at an all time high and the mule deer numbers are on the increase. The area traditionally harbors some trophy Muley bucks and we do take some excellent quality Mule Deer bucks especially late in the season.
There is also some excellent Whitetail deer hunting available on the lower end of the ranch and in the river bottom. This is again all private land and whitetail bucks in the 140 point plus B&C class are not uncommon. The last two weeks of the season offer the best opportunity at either a trophy Mule Deer or Whitetail with Lost Fork Ranch as your hunting outfitter.
These guided elk hunting trips are conducted from a base camp consisting of a log cookhouse and wall tents on permanent floors on the banks of Trout Creek in Southwest Montana. We'll hunt by horseback and foot with a maximum of 6 hunters per hunt either 2 hunters per guide or if a hunter prefers individually guided hunts are available. Our hunting guides are Montana natives, and not only excellent elk and deer hunters but horsemen as well. They will work hard to maximize your opportunity to have a successful elk hunting, deer hunting or other big game hunting trip here at Lost Fork Ranch, your Montana outfitter, in Southwest Montana.
